Wondering if SSBV is right for you? These FAQs cover everything from filmmaking experience to gear, course structure, and community support.

  • Not at all. Our SSBV Foundational Course is designed for beginners, giving you the essential skills to start filming and editing birth stories with confidence. If you’re already experienced, you may prefer our Advanced Course — or go all in with the Signature Course, which combines both beginner and advanced training in one complete program.

    • The Foundational Course teaches beginners the technical and storytelling essentials.

    • The Advanced Course helps experienced filmmakers refine their storytelling, editing, and artistry.

    • The Signature Course is our flagship — a comprehensive journey that includes both foundational and advanced training, plus coaching and community support.

  • If you’re just starting out, choose Foundational. If you already film confidently but want to polish your storytelling and editing, choose Advanced. If you want the complete experience — beginner to advanced, plus mentorship and community — choose Signature. You can also start with Foundational and upgrade later to Signature.

  • The Signature Course can be tailored to your learning style with three bundles:

    • Core: Full curriculum + community support.

    • Plus: Core + group mentorship calls + resource library.

    • Elevate: Plus + 1:1 coaching for personalized growth.
      All three include community access, Orientation, and a complimentary Film Festival submission.

  • All SSBV Signature course memberships come with ongoing (lifetime) access. You can return to the lessons, assignments, and resources whenever you need — and continue growing at your own pace. Community events like live Orientation and the Film Festival also repeat with each intake, so you’ll always be invited back.

  • You don’t need fancy gear to begin. Many of our students start with the DSLR or mirrorless camera they already use for photography. We’ll guide you on how to get the most from your setup, plus recommend affordable upgrades for audio, lighting, and stabilization as you grow.

  • Yes! Many students begin with Foundational or Advanced and later decide to go all in with Signature. We offer upgrade options so your investment carries forward — you’ll never have to “start over” if you decide to expand your learning.

  • Every SSBV course includes access to our private member group, community chats, and live events like Orientation and the Film Festival. If you choose Plus or Elevate, you’ll also join monthly mentorship calls — and Elevate students receive two hours of 1:1 coaching. This structure ensures you’re supported whether you learn best independently, collaboratively, or through personal guidance.
